FDA recalls egg product

As many people are preparing for the Super bowl, health officials have issued a warning about certain prepared salads that may be contaminated with Listeria.

The FDA has recalled a host of products containing eggs, which may be contaminated with the Listeria bacteria.

The hard-cooked eggs originated from Michael Foods in Wakefield, Nebraska but some of the egg products were used at Vaughn’s Foods in Moore.

Potato salad, macaroni salad, pea salad and egg salad were distributed to 14 states, including Oklahoma, under various product names.

The president of Vaughn Foods says before they use certain raw materials in their food, they send samples for outside testing.

Mark Vaughan said, “We did fine the contamination, put that product on hold and shipped it back to the supplier.”

The Centers for Disease Control say Listeria can cause fever, muscle aches, convulsions and even miscarriages in pregnant women.

Currently, there have been no reported illnesses related to the recall.
